WIRELESS WIDE AREA

INTERNET SYSTEM

SHARING PLAN

What is it???

A wireless Wide Area internet sharing plan is just what is sounds like.  It is a wireless network much like the wireless networks people have in their homes and businesses except that it serves an larger are such as a small neighborhood or rural community.  The area is not usually more than one square mile in size.  In a plan like this a group of neighbors go together and contract a service connection from a provider such as a local cable company and set up a wireless network hob that is usually  made up of a wireless assess point, signal boosting equipment and a very sophisticated outdoor antenna system placed on a tower centrally located to serve all those who share the system.  The initial cost of the base system is about $500.00 to $1,000.00 and the equipment for each of the individuals runs about $100.00 to $200.00.

The cost of the service from as ISP can be any where from $60.00 per month up to $500.00 per month depending on the source and speed of the service.  This cost is shared monthly by all those participating in the shared system.  A shared system of 25 people could feasibly cost each sharing member about $25.00 to $35.00 a month which is far less than the cost of an individual broadband service connection.

What are the Pros and Cons ???

The cost of the service is of course the most attractive factor that is usually first considered in setting up a shared plan.  Some other pluses are not being required to buy additional basic cable services, and not having to deal with the provider on an individual basis.  In a self operated sharing plan someone has to be responsible for setting up the system and keeping it in operation.  On of the most common practices is to have one or two such people who are knowledgeable and capable do this work in exchange for free access to the system.  Sometimes there just is not a practical way to to do this kind of plan.  In cases like that it is sometimes best to have an independent third party maintain and operate the system.  Another disadvantage is initial up front costs.  This disadvantage can be avoided by having a third party maintain and operate the system.  CLICK HERE  to learn more about third party operated systems.
